FEDERAL MINISTRY OF JUSTICE REAFFIRMS STAND AGAINST TORTURE

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Federal Ministry of Justice has called on security agencies to uphold Nigeria’s obligations under international law by rejecting torture in all forms.

Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mrs Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, emphasized in Abuja that torture is prohibited under national, regional, and global frameworks. She urged stakeholders in the justice sector to ensure respect for human rights, especially during arrests and interrogations.

Experts at the advocacy session highlighted that proper training and safeguards are already improving the handling of suspects and inmates in detention facilities across the country.
