The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully foiled an armed robbery and kidnap attempt along the Keffi–Akwanga highway. The incident happened at Mayo village where armed men blocked the road, targeting travellers.
According to Police PRO, Superintendent Ramhan Nansel, Commissioner of Police Shettima Mohammed Jauro quickly mobilised operatives from the Garaku Division. The team confronted the suspects in a gun battle, overpowering them. While most escaped into the forest, one suspect, Aondoaver Thiom from Keana LGA, was arrested with gunshot wounds.
Thiom admitted to being part of a criminal group that has been attacking travellers between Yelwata in Benue State and Kadarko in Nasarawa for over two months. He also gave useful information about his fleeing accomplices.
Recovered items included locally-made revolvers, live ammunition, cartridges, and army camouflage uniforms. The Commissioner of Police has ordered close collaboration between the Garaku Division and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Lafia to hunt down the remaining suspects and ensure the safety of commuters.
