AVIATION JUSTICE: KEYAMO CALLS FOR STRONGER JUDICIAL ROLE IN GLOBAL AIR LAW

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has stressed the vital role of the judiciary in maintaining Nigeria’s commitment to international air transport conventions.

Speaking at the 2025 Judges’ Conference in Abuja, organized by the ministry and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Keyamo noted that aviation is a global industry that demands consistent judicial interpretation of treaties.

He said judges must interpret aviation laws in ways that balance Nigeria’s national interests with international obligations, adding that informed judicial decisions promote fairness and confidence in dispute resolution.

NCAA Director-General Captain Chris Najomo reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to international standards, describing compliance as a symbol of integrity and institutional strength.

Representing the Attorney General, Mrs. Gladys Odegbaro highlighted the need to balance global uniformity with local realities.

The conference, themed “The Role of Judges in Sustaining Nigeria’s Adherence to Applicable International Conventions in Relation to Carriage by Air,” brought together key stakeholders in law and aviation.
