COURT STOPS OWORONSHOKI DEMOLITION, RESIDENTS DENY COMPENSATION CLAIMS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has issued an interim order halting further demolition of properties at Ojileru Street, Ososa Extension, and Toluwalase Street in Oworonshoki’s Itesiwaju Ajumoni CDA.

Justice A.G. Balogun directed that no demolition or third-party transaction should occur until due legal procedures are followed under the Lagos High Court Practice Direction No. 2 of 1999. The case, covering about 30 hectares of land, was adjourned to December 9, 2025, for a compliance report.

Residents have denied receiving any compensation or taking part in any enumeration related to the demolition. In a joint statement, they said:

“We did not collect any compensation or fill any enumeration form. Our lawyer has served them a High Court injunction to stop further demolition.”

They described the demolition as unlawful and urged authorities to obey the court’s order and respect their property rights. The injunction remains valid until full compliance with legal pre-action requirements.
