President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency, directing the army and police to recruit more personnel to tackle rising insecurity. The police will now recruit 20,000 additional officers, raising their strength to 50,000, while NYSC camps may be used as temporary training centres.
Security officers withdrawn from VIP duties will undergo quick retraining for deployment to high-risk areas. The DSS has also been ordered to deploy trained forest guards immediately and recruit more personnel to secure forests and flush out terrorists.
President Tinubu commended security agencies for rescuing abducted victims in Kebbi and Kwara, urging them to remain vigilant with no compromise, no collusion, and no negligence. He assured continuous federal support to state-level security outfits and called on the National Assembly to begin reviewing laws to allow states that need state police to establish them.
He advised states to avoid situating boarding schools in insecure remote areas and urged worship centres to seek security protection where necessary.
Tinubu reaffirmed that the new Livestock Ministry was created to end herder–farmer clashes, urging herder groups to embrace ranching, end open grazing, and surrender illegal weapons.
The President sympathised with families affected by recent attacks across several states and honoured fallen soldiers, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba. He warned that government restraint should not be mistaken for weakness, affirming his administration’s determination to protect Nigerians.
President Tinubu urged citizens to stand firm, reject fear, and remain united as the government works to ensure peace and national stability.
