The House of Representatives will start voting on proposed constitutional amendments this month, the House Spokesperson and Media Committee Chairman, Mr. Akin Rotimi, announced.
He said the amendments cover over 40 areas, including state policing, gender inclusivity, electoral reforms, and local government autonomy. Rotimi emphasized that state policing is a key proposal aimed at strengthening security through a multi-layered system that includes community policing.
The Spokesperson highlighted that the National Assembly is committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to tackle security challenges and ensure reforms that drive socio-economic development. He also noted the legislature’s proactive engagement on security issues following international concerns, stressing that lawmakers are working to ensure that those sponsoring insecurity are identified and addressed.
