Farouk Ahmed has resigned as managing director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority following corruption allegations levelled against him. The claims were made by the president of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, who accused him of financial impropriety and called on the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission to investigate the matter.
The resignation was confirmed on Wednesday by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga. Ahmed’s exit comes amid growing public attention on governance and accountability within Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
