President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed Nigerians to 2026 with gratitude to God and renewed optimism, expressing confidence that the new year will deliver greater prosperity for the nation and its people. He said his administration is committed to consolidating recent gains and strengthening reforms to build a resilient, inclusive, and growth-driven economy.
The President noted that despite tough anti-inflation measures in 2025, Nigeria recorded strong economic performance, with steady GDP growth, improved exchange rate stability, and inflation declining to below 15 percent. He affirmed that in 2026, the focus is on reducing inflation further and ensuring that economic reforms translate into real benefits for every household.
President Tinubu highlighted renewed investor confidence, reflected in the strong performance of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, rising foreign reserves, and a significant increase in foreign direct investment. He said these gains provide a solid foundation for increased investment in infrastructure and human capital development.
He added that 2026 marks a critical phase in tax reforms aimed at ending multiple taxation, easing the burden on citizens, and building a fair and sustainable fiscal system to support national development.
On security, the President stressed that economic progress must be matched with peace and stability. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to confronting terrorism and criminality through stronger local capacity and deeper cooperation with international partners, while protecting lives, property, and the nation’s territorial integrity.
Looking ahead, President Tinubu described 2026 as a year of tangible improvement in the lives of Nigerians, driven by grassroots empowerment, expanded economic opportunities, and continued investment in infrastructure, food security, healthcare, and education. He assured that all ongoing projects will continue without interruption.
The President called on Nigerians to remain united and patriotic, stressing that nation-building is a shared responsibility that requires collective purpose, integrity, and commitment to the country’s future.
