NIDCOM WELCOMES HOME 13 NIGERIANS RESCUED FROM TRAFFICKING IN GHANA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has received 13 Nigerians rescued from a human trafficking network in Ghana, following coordinated diplomatic and inter-agency efforts.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana for facilitating the repatriation and ensuring the welfare of the victims. She also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

The returnees, made up of adults and children, arrived in Lagos where they were received by NiDCOM officials. The victims have since been profiled by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons as part of reintegration procedures, while those with health challenges are receiving medical and psychosocial support.

Dabiri-Erewa warned young Nigerians against irregular migration and unverified job offers, noting that many such promises end in trafficking traps. She stressed the need for sustained awareness and collaboration to combat human trafficking networks.
