NORTHERN GOVERNORS SYMPATHISE WITH SINGA MARKET FIRE VICTIMS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Northern States Governors’ Forum has expressed deep sympathy with traders and victims affected by the recent fire at Kano State’s Singa Market.

Chairman of the forum and Muhammadu Yahaya described the blaze as particularly distressing, noting it occurred just weeks after a previous fire in the same market. He said recurring market fires across northern Nigeria have destroyed livelihoods, disrupted economic activities, and increased hardship for many families.

Governor Yahaya urged state and federal authorities to adopt modern fire detection and suppression systems, improve market infrastructure, enforce safety regulations, and educate traders on preventive measures. He also commended the swift response of the Kano State Fire Service, security agencies, the National Emergency Management Agency, and other responders whose efforts contained the fire and limited further losses.

The forum extended its condolences to the Kano State Government, affected business owners, and all those impacted by the tragedy.
