ROWDY SCENES IN HOUSE AS LAWMAKERS REJECT BID TO RESCIND ELECTORAL AMENDMENT

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Tension flared in the House of Representatives during an emergency plenary after a motion to reverse the passage of the Electoral Amendment Act was overwhelmingly rejected. The attempt sparked heated arguments and shouting among lawmakers, forcing the Speaker, Abbas Tajuddeen, to call for a closed-door executive session to restore order.

The Electoral Amendment Act, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electoral framework, remains contentious, exposing divisions within the House over key provisions.
