TRANSFORMER BLAST KILLS SUSPECTED POWER VANDAL IN AWKA

A suspected electricity vandal has been electrocuted following a transformer explosion in Awka, Anambra State. The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday at Ogechukwu Street, where the unidentified man was allegedly tampering with a power facility.

FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited confirmed that preliminary findings point to unlawful interference with the transformer, while the Nigeria Police Force has evacuated the body and opened an investigation. The power company’s management expressed concern over the rising cases of electricity infrastructure vandalism in the state.
