FCT TEACHERS PROTEST PROLONGED CAPTIVITY OF ABDUCTED COLLEAGUES, STUDENTS

Teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest, demanding the immediate release of teachers and students abducted by bandits in Oyo and Borno states.

The protest, organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), saw members march from the National Teachers’ House in Lugbe to the city centre, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims.

Speaking during the rally, NUT National President, Titus Amba, condemned the continued detention of the abducted teachers and students, describing it as a painful attack on the education sector and a threat to the future of the country.

Amba said the victims had remained in captivity for weeks, leaving their families in distress and uncertainty. He urged authorities to take urgent action to secure their safe and unconditional release.

The union also raised concerns over recurring attacks on schools across the country, warning that the situation continues to endanger teachers, students and the learning environment.

Protesters carried placards demanding greater protection for schools and improved security measures to prevent further attacks on educational institutions.

The NUT warned that it could intensify its nationwide campaign if efforts to rescue the abducted victims do not yield results.
