NIGER GOVERNMENT SIGNS BOND WITH 60 INDIGENOUS MEDICAL STUDENTS                                                                                           03-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                              Niger state Government has signed an engagement bond with sixty indigenous medical students into the state civil service.

The Medical students consist of forty three males and seventeen females from various Universities across Nigeria and abroad, specifically from the Islamic University and Uganda in East Africa.

State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago stated this at the occasion held at Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre in Minna.

Represented by his Deputy Comrade Yakubu Garba the Governor explained that these medical students, some of them in their clinical years have exhibited a plausible willingness to embrace the offer.

He however said arrangements with universities in India to train medical, engineering and ICT students is ongoing.

“The conversion of former Shiroro Hotel, Minna to a Teaching Hospital affiliated with the state owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai, has reached an advanced stage, and  that  this will also provide opportunities for post graduate training”.

In his remarks the Head of Service, Alhaji  Salisu Abubakar maintained that there is a good thing  in investing in human capital development and periodically monitor and evaluate progress for sustainability.

He stated that the Mohsmmed Umar Bago- led administration in the state will continue to implement policies and programmes that would guide against Brain Drain in the State’s Health sector and other professional cadres.

State Commissioner Ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Health, Dr Bello Tukur appealed to the Medical Students to sit up to towards justifying the confidence reposed on them by reciprocating the government’s gesture.

Highlights of the occasion was the symbolic signing of the agreements by the ministries and some representatives of the Medical students in attendance at the occasion.
