BILL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SOUTH EAST EROSION CONTROL COMMISSION PASSES FIRST READING                                                                                                               08-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 A member representing Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal constituency of Imo State, Mr. Emeka Martins Chinedu, says delibrate measures and concerted efforts would help address the menace of erosion in the Southeast which has destroyed the environment and means of livelihood of the people of the region.

Mr. Chinedu speaking on a Bill he sponsored for the establishment of South East Erosion Control Commission, reiterated that the Commission if established would help to address the critical issue of erosion affecting the South East region.
The Bill which has passed through its first reading at the green Chamber was aimed at providing strategic framework for proffering lasting solution to the problems of erosion in the Southeast.
According to Mr. Emeka Chinedu, the Bill is introduced with the intention of developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to combat the severe erosion problems that have devastated farmlands, homes, and infrastructure in the region.

The Lawmaker explained that the proposed commission is designed to provide an institutional framework to effectively manage and mitigate erosion, ensuring the protection of the environment and the livelihoods of the affected communities.
He noted that substantial environment of the Southeastern part of Nigeria has been destroyed by erosion hence the need to establish Commission that would focus in addressing the problem.
Mr. Emeka Chinedu, stressed that the introduction of the bill reflects the ongoing commitment of lawmakers to address pressing environmental challenges and improve the quality of life for residents in the South East region.
