Federal GOVERNMENT TO SUE DAILY TRUST NEWSPAPER FOR PUBLISHING MISLEADING STORY ON SAMOA AGREEMENT 07-07-24
By Sadiq Aminu The federal government is to sue daily trust newspaper for publishing a misleading report on the Samoa agreement.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation Alhaji Mohammed Idris stated this at a news briefing in Abuja.
He said the federal government would follow every lawful means to seek redress.
On 28 June this year, Nigeria signed the Samoa Agreement at the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium.
The partnership agreement is between the EU and and the members of the Organisation of Africa Carebian Pecufic States.
The agreement has 103 articles comprising a common foundational compact and three regional protocols,
The Minister of Information and National Orientation explained that daily trust newspaper published the story without fact checking thereby misleading Nigerians.
Alhaji Mohammed Idris said though the current administration has allow for free press, it would however not allow the country to be misled.
The Ministet of Budget and Economic planning Alhaji Atiku Bagudu who signed the document on behalf of Nigeria said the agreement does not contain any harmful article against Nigeria.
He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu respect the laws and norms and has sworn to protect them and would not signed any agreement against it.
He appealed to the media and Nigerians to always fact check any information before going public.
