FG RECONVENES IT’S MEETING WITH ASUU, ON SEPTEMBER 6, WITH A VIEW TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES RAISED BY THE UNION                                                                                       28-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The Federal Government has reconvened its meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, on September 6, to allow for more time to address the issues raised by the Union.

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman stated this in Abuja at the end of a closed door meeting with ASUU.

Professor Mamman said that a sub-committee had been set up to review their demands while also finding lasting solutions to the union’s demands.

The ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed optimism that by the next meeting, all the issues would be resolved.

“We have met to discuss all the issues and review them. We have given government between now and the next meeting to see what they have done.

“We believe in the interest of the Nigerian child and to protect their interest if the issues were resolved,” he said.

Some of the union’ demands are the release of revitalisation funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, and release of earned allowances for university lecturers.

Others are deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
