KANO STATE GOVERNOR INSPECTS TIGA DAM AMID DAM SAFETY CONCERNS                                                                                                  24-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  Following the devastating flood disaster in Borno State, the Kano State Government has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of its dams.

A critical inspection of the Tiga Dam was conducted, led by Commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Makoda, and Commissioner for Works, accompanied by experts from their respective ministries.

The inspection aimed to assess the dam’s condition and alleviate concerns raised by the recent situation at the Alo Dam.

“What happened at the Alo Dam sent a very negative signal to Nigerians. That’s why His Excellency directed us to be here today,” Makoda explained

Built between 1971 and 1974, the Tiga Dam is a significant reservoir on the Kano River, with a maximum capacity of nearly 2 billion cubic meters,While managed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the state government’s inspection ensures everything is in good condition.

“We have listened to the experts, and all indications show that the dam is intact. There’s nothing to worry about.”

The inspection is part of the state’s proactive measures to prevent potential flooding disasters as the rainy season intensifies.

He added that Next, the team is expected to assess other key dams in the state, including: Bagwai Dam, Challawa Dam.
