NIGERIA RECEIVES IT’S FIRST SHIPMENT OF THE MALARIA VACCINES OF OVER 800, 000 DOSES FROM GAVI IN A SIGNIFICANT FIGHT AGAINST MALARIA                                                                                                                   17-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  Nigeria has received its first shipment of the malaria vaccines of over 800, 000 doses from Gavi in a significant fight against malaria.

Receiving the vaccines in Abuja, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Patel said the distribution of the vaccine would commence from Bayelsa and Kebbi where the burden of malaria is high.

Prof Pate pointed out that the vaccines would be administered to the vulnerable population -Children and pregnant women to improve their health outcomes.

The Minister who urged parents to avail their children to the vaccines, called on the media to help disseminate the right information about its safety.

The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Muyi Aina said another batch of over 100,000 doses of the malaria vaccines were expected to make up the 1,000,000 targeted for the pilot phase.

Development partners Gavi, UNICEF, WHO and USAID commended Nigeria for the gesture and attested to the efficacy of the malaria vaccine.
