By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The House of Representatives has expressed commitment to ensuring accountability, transparency and total adherence to laws in the running of the nation’s higher institutions.

The Chairman, House Committee on Polytechnics and other Higher Technical Education, Mr. Fuad Laguda, stated this in Abuja, while addressing journalists after an oversight function meeting with five Polytechnics from the South East.

Mr. Laguda, who noted that institutions under the purview of the Committee, would continued to oversight to deliver on their mandates, pointed out that the polytechnics and other higher institutions that offer technical learning are crucial to the development of the country.
He said the Committee would take the budget performance of the institutions very seriously for optimal delivery.

According to Mr Laguda, there was the need to verify the things the schools said they had done as some provided picture evidence while others did not.

The Committee Chairman emphasized that despite the fact that the Committee held some of the oversight at the National Assembly, they will still pay physical visits to the institutions due to some of the budget lines the Schools presented especially expenditures.

The Polytechnics that appeared before the committees are; the Federal Polytechnic, Akanu Ibiam, Federal Polytechnic Nekede; Federal Polytechnic Ohodo; Federal Polytechnic Isuochi and Federal Polytechnic Oko.
