NSCDC ARRESTS 37 SUSPECTED SCAVENGERS IN FCT, VOWS TO ENFORCE BAN                                                                                             17-01-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has arrested 37 suspected illegal scavengers in compliance with the recent ban on scavenger activities within the FCT.

The FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr. Olusola Odumosu while speaking to newsmen on the arrest, explained that the activities of scavengers, commonly referred to as Baban Bola, pose significant security risks.

Dr Odumosu said some scavengers serve as informants for criminals, including armed robbers, kidnappers, and hired assassins.

He said the suspects were apprehended while loitering in various parts of the city and its suburbs carrying sacks filled with vandalized items and dangerous weapons.

Dr Odumosu reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to enforcing the ban and called on residents to collaborate with the Corps and other security agencies to eradicate criminal elements in the FCT.

He explained that the Corps plans to dismantle scavenger settlements across the territory as part of its intensified crackdown.

Items recovered from the suspects included daggers, knives, metal cutters, bottles of codeine syrup, iron scraps, and wraps of Indian hemp.
