SEPARATED NIGERIAN CONJOINED TWINS RETURN HOME AFTER SURGERY IN SAUDI ARABIA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Two Nigerian conjoined twins, Hassana and Husaina, have returned to Kano after a successful separation surgery in Saudi Arabia.

The delicate 14-hour operation was performed at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital, Riyadh, under the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The procedure, described as one of the most complex ever attempted, was carried out by a team of 38 specialists.

The Consular General of Saudi Arabia in Kano praised the outcome, noting it reflects the kingdom’s strong humanitarian commitment. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf welcomed the twins at the airport and assured the state will support their upbringing and education. Their father, Alhaji Hassan Isa, expressed gratitude to both governments for the life-saving intervention.

The successful surgery marks the 65th operation under the Saudi Siamese Twins Separation Program, which has provided care to children from 25 countries over the past 35 years.
