NIGERIA TRAINS SECURITY AGENTS ON IED RESPONSE

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), under the Office of the National Security Adviser, has begun training first responders and bomb technicians on handling Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The multi-agency training brings together the Military, Police, Civil Defence, DSS, and others ahead of the Rapid Response Two crisis exercise.

NCTC Coordinator, Major General Adamu Laka, said the programme tests participants’ readiness while boosting technical skills for effective counter-terrorism response. He stressed that focusing on IEDs is crucial, given their frequent use by terrorists in the North East.

He noted the exercise will not only aid the success of Rapid Response Two but also strengthen Nigeria’s long-term security.
