PDP CALLS FOR SECURITY REVIEW TO EMPOWER GOVERNORS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged a review of Nigeria’s security architecture to give State Governors more authority during emergencies. PDP National Chairman Alhaji Tanimu Turaki made the call during a visit to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, following a recent security breach in the state.

Turaki said Nigerians must set aside political and religious differences to tackle rising security challenges. He emphasized that Governors currently have limited control over security operations in their states, a gap that needs urgent reform.

The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts to rescue kidnapped pupils and called for greater coordination among security agencies to ensure peace and national development.

Governor Bago appreciated the visit, noting it reflects healthy political engagement, and commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in ongoing rescue operations.
