Nigeria tested more than five million pregnant women for HIV in 2024, helping prevent mother-to-child transmission, according to NACA DG Dr. Temitope Ilori.
She said 26,000 women who tested positive were placed on treatment immediately, while 23,000 babies exposed to HIV got early diagnosis. Ilori noted progress but said testing coverage must improve.
She highlighted Nigeria’s steady gains, including a drop in HIV prevalence to 1.4% and strong performance toward the 95-95-95 global targets.
Ilori said Nigeria remains committed to protecting mothers, babies, and all citizens living with HIV.
