KEBBI GOVT URGES CLERICS TO PROMOTE PEACE, AVOID POLITICAL ATTACKS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kebbi State Government has dismissed claims that the administration of Governor Nasir Idris has failed to support Islamic affairs and the development of the state.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Architect Muhammad Sani Aliyu, made the clarification during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, describing the allegation raised by Bashir Jega during a Friday sermon as misleading and a distortion of facts.

Aliyu said the current administration has taken significant steps to strengthen religious activities in the state, including the establishment of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, a long-awaited institution that had not been achieved for over 25 years.

He added that the government has also strengthened key religious bodies such as the Zakat and Waqf Board, the Preaching Board, and the Hisbah Commission through legal backing and necessary support.

The commissioner therefore urged clerics to focus on preaching peace, unity and moral guidance, while avoiding political antagonism that could mislead the public.
