NLC:  LABOUR OPTED FOR FURTHER CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT WITH THE PRESIDENT

The Presidency says the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress has agreed to suspend the nationwide protest against the fuel subsidy removal.

A statement says President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and that of Trade Union Congress, Comrade Festus Usifo, gave their commitment to that effect during their meeting with President Tinubu in Abuja.

According to the statement, their fruitful and frank discussion with President Tinubu, and their confidence in his ability to encourage open and honest consideration of all the issues put forward by the labour movement, the labour leaders resolved to stop further protest.

Signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Mr. Dele Alake, the statement says labour opted for further constructive engagement with the government to resolve all outstanding issues affecting the working people and Nigerians in general.

Africa247 Channel; President Tinubu, according to the statement, gave his commitment to the labour leaders that the Port Harcourt refineries will start production by December 2023 after the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation contract between NNPCL and an Italian firm.

It says President Tinubu assured the labour leaders that he would continue to work for the best interest of Nigeria, while pleading with the organised labour to join hands with him to deliver a better and economically-buoyant country.
