BAUCHI GOVERNMENT DECLARES AUGUST 17 WORK-FREE DAY FOR LG ELECTIONS

The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, a work-free day to enable residents participate fully in the state’s local government elections.
The declaration was announced by Governor Bala Mohammed in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Muktar Gidado, and made available to journalists in Bauchi.
The work-free day applies to civil and public servants at the local, state and federal levels, as well as bank employees across the state. However, workers providing essential services are exempted.
The government said the decision was aimed at giving eligible workers enough time to exercise their civic responsibility as the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission conducts elections into the local government councils.
Residents were urged to come out and vote peacefully and responsibly, while security agencies and electoral officials were expected to work together to ensure a safe and orderly electoral process.
The government also called on citizens to comply with electoral laws and maintain peace before, during and after the elections.
