ASUU DECLARES INDEFINITE STRIKE AT IBB UNIVERSITY LAPAI

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai Branch in Niger State, has declared an indefinite strike over the non-implementation of key provisions of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and university unions.
The union announced the decision after an emergency congress held at the university auditorium in Lapai.
Chairman of the branch, Comrade Galadima Bala, said the action followed the failure of the Niger State Government to implement the agreement despite several engagements, appeals and dialogue.
Bala said several state-owned universities across the country had already implemented the agreement, warning that Niger State risked falling behind in the education sector.
He called on the state government to urgently address the issues and restore industrial harmony at IBB University, stressing that the union remained open to meaningful dialogue.
The ASUU chairman said the strike would be suspended once the government demonstrates a clear commitment to implementing the agreement.
He also appealed to members to remain calm and law-abiding, while expressing regret over the inconvenience the strike may cause students, parents and other stakeholders.
