REPS INVESTIGATES ALLOCATIONS FOR GREAT GREEN WALL FROM 2015 TO DATE                                                                         30-08-23

By: Sadiq Aminu                                                    The House of Representatives has commenced investigation into the utilization of ecological funds released to the Great Green Wall project from 2015 to date.

The Speaker Dr Tajudeen Abbas, who declared the Investigative hearing open said the objective is to gather data to ensure that the program is optimally implemented as well as identify challenges affecting the execution of the project.

Another objective he said is to expose corruption, and guide the new administration in the continued implementation of the policy which is crucial to both the well-being and the security of the nation.

Dr Abbas stated that the hearing came at a time of heightened public expectations, given the parliament experiences with the management of public funds by agencies of government in recent times, which is threatening the
development of the country.

” The mandate of the adhoc set up for the investigation, is to investigate;
All funds received from International organizations or Donor agencies from 2015 to date; All budgetary and other Federal allocations to the National Agency for the Great Green Wall from 2015 to date:

“The utilization of ecological funds released to the Great Green Wall by the international organisations. All contracts awarded to various contractors for the project from 2015 to date; The total sum received through the policy and the level of compliance with the goals and objectives of the projects.

The chairman of the adhoc committee Mr Isma’ila Dabo, explained that the recent upsurge in natural
environmental challenges, despite funds put into the Great Green Wall
programme from both the federal government and international partners
necessitated the investigation.

Dabo expressed the Committee’s displeasure with some ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government as well as several state governments that have either not responded to the committee’s request to submit necessary documents required, or deliberately delayed such documents. to prevent the Committee from having a proper diagnosis of issues under context.
