NEMA FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF ECONOMIC INTERVENTION MATERIALS TO 22,000 HOUSEHOLDS IN JIGAWA 25-09-23
By Sadiq Aminu The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA has commenced the distribution of relief materials to 22,000 households affected by the 2022 flood disaster in Jigawa State.
In his speech during the distribution in Warwade, Dutse local government area of the state, The Director General of the agency, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, said that the items will be distributed under the agency’s 2023 Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention for the 2022 flood affected persons and the most vulnerable.
The DG who was represented by the Director Human Resource Management in the agency, Alhaji Musa Zakari, said that the distribution was aimed at bringing succour to the affected households in the state.
He explained that the items to be distributed included livelihood equipment, food and non-food and farm inputs.
The DG further explained that the livelihood equipment were sewing and grinding machines, while the non-food items were mosquito nets, mats, blankets, buckets and mattresses.
According to him, the food items were rice 25kg, beans 10kg, sorghum 10kg, blankets, mats, mosquito nets, cooking pots, soaps and detergents.
Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed said the farm inputs include maize and rice seeds, herbicides, pesticides, growth enhancers, liquid fertiliser, water pumps and sprayers.
He further explained that the farm inputs were given farmers to enable them back to the farms, while the livelihood support was to help artisans to improve their businesses and grow the economy.
In his remarks, Governor Umar Namadi of jigawa state commended the federal government for the gesture.
Represented by his Deputy Engineer Aminu Usman Gumel, the Governor said that it is timely as many households were facing economic challenges.
He added that the gesture has demonstrated the government concern over the welfare and betterment of its citizens.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency SEMA Dr Haruna Mairiga commended NEMA for its untiring support to the people of the state.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Africa 247, thanked the Federal and State Governments for the gesture and promised to make good use of the items.
