BUILDING COLLAPSE: A THREE-STOREY BUILDING COLLAPSES IN ABAKALIKI IN EBONYI LOCAL GOVERNMENT                                                                              28-09-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                            A three-storey building located at Ogboloko Street, off Nnodo Street, Abakaliki in Ebonyi Local Government Area has collapsed.

The building, which had shown signs of serious defect collapsed last night.

No body is reportedly trapped in the collapsed structure as it had already been sealed by the Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA.

This was after the inhabitants hurriedly vacated the building last month to avoid being victims in the event of collapse.

It was gathered that the collapsed building was initially approved as a storey building, but the landlord added two more floors to it.

Meanwhile, Africa 247 gathered that another building located off Ebebe Junction, which had shown visible signs of defects had also been sealed by the authorities.

The two defective buildings are said to have been supervised by the same engineer.

When approached, Ebonyi State Commissioner for Abakaliki Capital City Development and Urban Planning, Mr. Sunday Inyima, said he was not aware of the collapse.

He, however, said his men were working in concert with officials of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, which led to the sealing of the site before the collapse alongside the sealing of the other defective building at Ebebe Junction, Abakaliki.
