NAF UNDERSCORES SIGNIFICANCE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES IN OPERATIONS                                                               08-11-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar has highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in modern-day military operations.

In a statement by Director of Public Relations and Information of NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet says the Air Chief stated this today at the opening ceremony of NAF Communications Information Systems(CIS) conference holding at the NAF headquarters, Abuja.

Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar explained that for the NAF to ensure the security of its Communications, it must seek out ways to improve its investment in state-of-the-art encryption and cyber security measures.

He pointed out that the ability of the NAF to harness the power of technology would determine its success in ensuring the highest levels of operational effectiveness and efficiency.

According to him, positioning the NAF to meet the airpower demands of national security is critically hinged on NAF’s ability to monitor Nigeria’s airspace through the implementation of military total radar coverage of Nigeria.

The Air Chief stressed that Communications and Information Systems plays an important role in enabling Commanders to make informed decisions, co-ordinate forces and ultimately achieve mission objectives.

Air Marshal Abubakar re-iterated the commitment of NAF to staying at the forefront of technological advancements, in line with one of his command philosophy of “prioritizing research and development, leveraging cutting-edge technology, strategic partnerships, and lessons learned”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Communications and Information Systems(CCIS), Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola explained that the 2-day conference was aimed at exploring innovative CIS that would enhance NAF’s operational capabilities in addressing pressing national security imperatives.

He said the core derivative of the conference was geared towards improving the capacity of CIS personnel as well as re-invigorating CIS-based procedures with a view to enhancing NAF operational effectiveness.

The 2-day conference with the theme:”Exploiting Emerging CIS Technologies for an agile and resilient NAF to effectively meet national security in all operational Environments” drew participants from NITDA, NCC, NIGCOMSAT, NAMA among others.
