NPC COMMENCES DEMOGRAPHIC SURVEY IN 21 LGAs IN BORNO STATE 08-01-24
By Sadiq Aminu The National Population Commission NPC has commenced the 2023-2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health survey in twenty one out of the twenty seven local government areas of Borno state.
NPC Federal Commissioner, Borno state Honourable Isa Buratai stated this at a media briefing in Maiduguri.
Represented by the state Director of the Commission Malam Haruna Ibrahim said the survey will greatly contribute towards enhancing public health intervention and other critical sectors of development.
He identified key areas where data would be collected to include child and adolescent health, maternal mortality, maternal and reproductive health, breastfeeding, child abuse and gender-based violence.
“the survey has been instrumental in providing invaluable insights that inform evidence-based policies, enhance public health interventions, and contribute to the broader development agenda of our nation” he said.
According to the Federal Commissioner, six local government areas in the state that have been excluded in this year’s exercise due to security concerns to include Abadam, Chibok, Guzamala, Magumeri, Marte and Mobbar.
Honourable Buratai however explained that despite non participation of these local governments, the outcome of the survey will not be adversely affected.
The NPC Federal Commissioner also said traditional and community leaders will be actively engaged to sensitize members of their community on the importance of the survey and allow them access their households.
