BORNO GOVERNMENT RELEASES OVER N637 MILLION FOR REGISTRATION, ALLOWANCES of 2,010 NURSING STUDENTS                                                                                                 06-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Borno state government has released the sum of 637.5 million naira for the payment of registration and allowances of 2,010 newly admitted students of College of Nursing.

At a media briefing in Maiduguri, Executive Secretary state Scholarship Board, Malam Bala Isa said the special scholarship package was introduced by Governor Babagana Zulum to bolster the number of nurses and other frontline health workers at the community level.

He explained that the students will also be given monthly allowances of thirty thousand naira to support their academic activities.

According to the Executive Secretary, 393.5 million naira has been approved for payment of thirty thousand Naira monthly allowance to 1,088 students from January to December, 2024.

Malam Isa added that 202. 5 million has been earmarked as allowances to 1,013 existing students of the College of Nursing sciences who are not part of the package.

“The Borno state government has also approved the release of 41,383,000 naira as registration fees for 997 newly admitted indigenes of the state on scholarship at the College of Nursing Sciences ” Isa said.

The Executive Secretary remarked that the state government was ready to employ all the students at the end of their programme to work at their respective local governments.

He appreciated the Governor for sponsoring the education of thousands of Borno indigenes who would not have the opportunity to further their studies.

Correspondent Sadiq Aminu reports the package includes students of National Diploma in Nursing, Community Nursing, Community Midwifery and Basic Midwifery.
