FG Will PROVIDE SPACE FOR AIRLINE OPERATORS TO BUILD, MAINTAIN AND OVERHAUL AIRCRAFT- FESTUS KEYAMO                                                     09-10-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                         The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development says, Government will provide spaces for willing airline operators to create bases to build and maintain their terminals and aircrafts.

The Ministry also gave an assurance of provision of easy access to foreign exchange for airlines as well as single digit facilities to operate maximally.

The Minister, Mr. Festus Keyamo gave the indications during an interactive session with Airline operators in Abuja.

The Minister also emphasized the need for the development of a master plan for the aviation industry.

The Minister of Aviation, Mr. Festus Keyamo said government was committed towards addressing the myriads of challenges facing the industry as well as support growth and maintenance of local airlines, grow the economy, and provide jobs.

Mr. Keyamo however insisted that the airlines must maintain international standards, be ready to consolidate and collaborate amongst themselves to avoid smaller airlines collapsing during crisis.

The Minister stressed the need to establish commercial World class Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, MROs, in Nigeria and a master plan for the industry.

He appealed to the operators to strategize towards reducing the flight cost, as well as delays and cancelation of flights.

In an interview, the Chief Executive Officer of AirPeace, Mr. Allen Onyema, expressed satisfaction about the deliberations during the interactive session.

The Spokesperson of the Airline Operators of Nigeria, Mr. Obiora Okonkwo emphasized the need for government to ensure adequate policy implementations for as an enabling environment for business to thrive in aviation industry.

The Chief Executive Officer of Topbrass Airline, Mr. Roland Iyaya had earlier presented some demands of the Airline operators including constitution of committee to review and update the civil aviation policy document in line with global standards, cancelation of all existing 8th and 9th freedom rights allocated to foreign airlines operating within the country.
