By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Federal Ministry of Education has developed a strategic roadmap to drive the education sector for better service delivery.
While receiving the final report of the Roadmap Committee in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman explained that the plan had set the tune for the revitalization of the sector and excuses for non-performance would not be accepted from key stakeholders.
He stated that education was a top priority for the present administration and all efforts must be geared towards that direction.
Professor Mamman said mechanism would be put in place to ensure full implementation of the plan.
”We want to assure you that all the positive recommendations in terms of what has to be done, the strategies and timelines prescribed in the report will be followed. We are going to set up a monitoring and evaluation committee to ensure we are on track. we are also going to set up in implementation committee”.
Chairman of the Roadmap Committee, Dr. Nuhu Yakubu explained that the report which was formulated through stakeholder consultations and review of past reports on education, covers areas such as out-of-school children, adult education, skills and entrepreneurship, basic and senior education among others.
”We undertook a thorough review of previous MSPs based on thermatic areas. We interacted with all the heads of agencies under the ministry as well as the Directors with the aim of ensuring that the roadmap that we bring is practical, problem solving and realistic”.
Dr. Nuhu expressed optimism that the plan would reposition the sector.
