29-12-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                    The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye says the ministry is committed to sustainable women empowerment by providing essential facilities to improve the lives of women and their communities.

In a statement by the Head of Press in the ministry, Grace Njoku the minister reiterated this commitment during her visit to the Garki Chiefdom in Abuja Municipal Council, accompanied by top management staff of the ministry.

Mrs. Kennedy-Ohanenye stated that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is fully devoted to creating a conducive environment to eliminate poverty.

During her visit, the minister addressed the issue of iron breast pressing, a traditional practice in some parts of the FCT aimed at preventing early male attraction to young girls.

She raised awareness about its consequences and urged the Council to collaborate with the government in spreading the campaign against this practice at the grassroots level.

In response, the District Head of Garki Chiefdom Council, AmbassdorEmmanuel Gade, assured that the Council would support government efforts to put an end to the tradition.

He pledged the Council’s commitment to the programs and initiatives of the Ministry in alignment with the policy direction of the present administration.
