PLATEAU STATE GOVERNMENT INUAGURATES SAFE SCHOOL STEERING COMMITTEE                                                                                                                              22-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 Plateau State Government and the United Nations Children Education Fund, UNICEF have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, aimed at improving the nutritional value and safety of pupils.

This followed the payment of the two hundred thousand dollars counterpart fund by the State Government.

Signing the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU signaled the commencement of an arrangement that would ensure the safety and well-being of pupils in the State.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the development as a milestone towards improving the quality of education and further protect the future of the plateau child.

Inaugurating the Safe School Steering Committee, Governor Mutfwang called on those saddled with the responsibilities to be up and doing stating that Government would not tolerate any act of negligence.

Earlier, the UNICEF Chief Field officer in Bauchi, Tushar Rane commended the state government for fulfilling its own part of the baggain and said in view of that, the fund would also reciprocate by investing additional sum of two hundred thousand dollars as a gesture of its goodwill.

Giving an overview of the MoU, State commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Chrisantus Dawam disclosed that the pilot scheme of the programme would be undertaken in two selected Local Governments Areas, drawn from the three Senatorial Zones of the State.

The committee, to be headed by the state Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mohammed Nyalum as Chairman while Alex Ladan is to serve at the UNICEF Coordinator amongst other members.
