TWO MIDDLE-AGED MEN ARRESTED BY ANAMBRA STATE VIGILANTE GROUP, FOR ALLEGEDLY DESTROYING AND STEALING BILLBOARDS 26-06-24
By Sadiq Aminu Two middle-aged men have been arrested by members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group, AVG, Umuzocha Awka Unit, for allegedly destroying and stealing billboards belonging to the Anambra State Signage and Advertisment Agency, ANSAA.
Parading the suspects , at ANSAA office in Awka, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr Paul Nwosu, noted that the incident has been reoccurring.
He commended the Umuzocha Security outfit for being vigilant and helping to make the arrest, reminding others who have such evil intent that there is a consequence for such act.
The Commissioner regretted that the practice is making Anambra state not to be considered for outdoor advertising business, thereby denying government revenues needed for development.
Mr Nwosu noted that the suspects will be handed over to the Police for prosecution.
The Managing Director, Anambra State Signage and Advertisment Agency, ANSAA, Mr Odili Ujubonu, said that the agency is serious about securing people’s investments in the state, even as he commended members of the AVG, Umuzocha Awka unit, for helping in that regard.
On his part, the Commander, Community-based Vigilante Group, Umuzocha Unit, Mr Ikechukwu Ugochukwu, said the suspects, Chukwuemelie Onyejiaka and Chukwuebuka Nwigwe, were arrested around one o’clock Tuesday morning along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway; near Regina Caeli Junction .
Mr Ugochukwu noted that efforts were being made to arrest two other fleeing members of the group and appealed for more support to the AVG in order to do more for the people and the government in terms of security of lives and property.
The suspects however denied their involvement in destroying and stealing billboards as one of the suspects, Chukwuebuka Nwigwe from Ebonyi State, said he was arrested at the crime scene while passing by around one o’clock in the morning.
His colleague, Chukwuemelie Onyejiaka; from Awka, said he was only helping Chukwuebuka get abandoned tarpaulin with which to repair leaking apartment.
Africa 247 correspondent Sadiq Aminu reports that the suspects will be handed over to the Police for further investigation and prosecution.
