KANSIEC TO CONDUCT DRUG TEST ON CANDIDATES                                                                                                                                  11-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  In a bid to ensure that only eligible candidates participate in the forthcoming local government elections, the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has announced plans to conduct drug tests on all candidates contesting for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

The Executive Chairman of KANSIEC, Prof. Sani Lawal Malumfashi, made this known during a visit to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) headquarters in Kano.

Professor Malumfashi solicited the support and cooperation of the NDLEA in conducting the drug tests and submitting the results to the commission to determine the eligibility of candidates.

Prof. Malumfashi emphasized that the commission is committed to preventing drug addicts from holding executive power in local government, citing the potential consequences of drug abuse on the community.

The NDLEA State Commander, Abubakar Idris Ahmad, assured KANSIEC of his command’s readiness to provide necessary support and cooperation for a hitch-free election.

The event also featured the presentation of election guidelines and calendar to the NDLEA Commander.
