FIVE POLITICAL PARTIES OUT of 17 CLEARED TO CONTEST LG POLLS IN KWARA STATE                                                                             18-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                         At least five (5)political parties were cleared to contest the forth coming Kwara state local government elections out of the seventeen (17) registered .

The chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), Alhaji Mohammed Baba- Okanla stated this at a media chat organised by the state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NU J) in Ilorin, the state capital.

He said five political parties cleared to participate in the Saturday elections included, APC, PDP, APM, SDP and Accord Party .

Alhaji Baba-Okanla said adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure a hitch free election.

He explained that the commission has carefully crafted a comprehensive time table to ensure that all stakeholders are adequately prepared for the electoral process.

The Chairman said the local government elections are scheduled to take place in 2,887;Polling units across 193 wards in the state.

Baba-Okanla said that the commission has been collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) to ensure success of the council poll.

In his address the chairman Kwara state Council of the NUJ, AbdulLateef Ahmed, represented by the vice Chairman, Hajiya Binta Mora, expressed delight that the state has thought it wise to put in place democratically elected governments at the local government levels.

He urged the electoral body to conduct a free, fair and credible elections.
