BOTSWANA SEEKS DEEPER TRADE TIES WITH NIGERIA                                                                                                                                     01-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  Botswana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ms. Philda Kereng, has called for stronger trade cooperation between the two countries.

She made this appeal during Botswana’s 58th National Day celebration held in Abuja.

Ms. Kereng highlighted the long-standing partnership between Botswana and Nigeria, and emphasized the need for enhanced business relations.

She applauded Nigeria’s resilience in trade and business, noting that both countries have the potential to lead Africa’s economic growth.

The high commissioner identified opportunities in the creative sector, such as film, food, fashion, and music, where Nigeria has shown remarkable leadership.

She stressed the importance of using these industries to boost trade and deepen ties between both countries.

Ms. Kereng also expressed concern over the current low trade volume between Botswana and Nigeria, urging for increased cooperation in areas like cosmetics, textiles, livestock farming, and beef production.

She suggested that Nigeria could benefit from Botswana’s expertise in livestock farming, which has seen significant exports to European markets.

The High Commissioner of Namibia to Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Geiseb, also commended Botswana’s economic growth, describing it as an asset to Africa.
