U.S. GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES TECHNOLOGY HUB FOR ABUJA YOUTH 09-10-24
By Sadiq Aminu The United States government, through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), has launched a new technology hub aimed at supporting adolescents and young people in Abuja.
A statement by the US Embassy in Abuja explains that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Adolescents and Young People Technology Incubation Hub offers training in key technical skills such as robotics, digital marketing, mobile app development, and web development.
It also focuses on providing health information, particularly on HIV prevention and sexual health, while supporting HIV-positive youth in adhering to their treatment plans.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, which celebrated the first cohort of 50 graduates, U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, David Greene, described the hub as a safe space for young people to learn and build lifelong skills.
Also present was the U.S. CDC Nigeria Deputy Director for Partner Management, Cole Gbolahan, who highlighted the hub’s efforts to equip young people with skills for the digital economy.
The initiative, implemented with the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, aims to reduce risks for youth, prevent HIV transmission, and empower them for a healthier and more successful future.
