By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    Kwara state government says it would continue to support educational institutions in their efforts towards ensuring food security in the state.

The State Commissioner for Teritairy Education Dr. Mary Arinde stated this while speaking at the Flag- off of the Kwara State Polytechnic Commercial farm products and first tranche of maize sales at subsidized rate in Ilọrin.

She said the initiative is in line with the present administration’s policy thrust to reduce hunger and foster agricultural development in the State.

Dr. Arinde promised government’s unwavering support for tertiary institutions in their quest for excellence and enhanced service delivery

The Commissioner said that the event is a testament to the Polytechnic’s dedication to fostering agricultural development and promoting self-sufficiency within the educational community.

Dr. Arinde urged the management of the Institution to grow other crops for public consumption.

Earlier in his address, the Rector of the Kwara state Polytechnic Ilọrin, Dr. Abdul Jimoh said the farm project is meant to expose students to the practical aspect of their field of study as well as contribute to food sufficiency in the state.

He explained that the Polytechnic also used the farm as a means of checking encroachment on its land.
