By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The federal government has been urged to urgently adopt a safer means of transporting petroleum products to reduce carnage arising from petrol tankers accidents across the Country.

In a statement the National coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWGN), Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi and the National Secretary Dr. Nasir Balogun says the movement of petroleum tankers with products for long hours without any supervision possess a great danger to the motoring public.

The statement call for immediate halt to the apparent lapses to save lives.

According to it most petrol tanker drivers hardly relax even when they appeared exhausted while on a journey.

The statement further calls on the Federal Ministry of Transportation and Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources to synergise and evolve better strategy in the distribution of petroleum in the country.

The group sympathise with the Government and People of Jigawa State over the last week’s incident which led to the death of many people.

The statement calls on the Federal and State Governments to collaborate with Media Organizations to sensitise the public on the dangers inherent in scooping of petroleum products.
