By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken proactive steps to empower air travelers by launching a nationwide consumer protection roadshow.

The initiative, which kicked off in Lagos Monday aims to educate passengers about their rights and responsibilities, as well as to clarify the roles and duties of airlines.

A large contingent of staff of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, including the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, joined forces with stakeholders, popular actresses, social media influencers, and media personnel to conduct the roadshow.

The team visited key locations within Murtala Mohammed International Airport, including the General Aviation Terminal One Terminal 2, and the International Terminal.

Clad in distinctive attire and armed with informative flyers, the NCAA team engaged with passengers, explaining the agency’s role in safeguarding consumer rights.

They highlighted crucial topics such as passenger rights in cases of flight delays, cancellations, lost or delayed baggage, and other common issues.

The NCAA’s Director, public affairs and consumer protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu said, the agency remains committed to protecting the interests of air travelers and fostering a positive passenger experience.

“Passengers need to become more aware of their rights so that airlines would not cheat them. A lot of passengers do not know these things, today, we are bringing an end to that circle of ignorance”.

He stated that, by taking this initiative, the NCAA seeks to strengthen the relationship between airlines and passengers, promote transparency, and ensure a higher standard of service delivery in the aviation industry.

Some passengers interviewed described the initiative as a welcome development.

“It will go a long way in educating the passengers to know their rights when there is flight cancellations whether international or domestic”.

The roadshow is expected to be held in Abuja and port Harcourt airports.
