STOP THE THREAT, PAY NEW MINIMUM WAGE SIGNED INTO LAW, NLC TELLS NWIFURU                                                                                                                                      02-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says the threat of sacking workers who embarked on strike in Ebonyi State over non-payment of new minimum wage is unhelpful.

A statement by President of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero directs the workers and affiliate unions in the state to continue the industrial action until the government respond positively.

“We are dismayed by the statement credited to the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru that except the striking workers in the state over non-payment of the National Minimum Wage resume work immediately they should consider themselves sacked” Ajaero stated.

Comrade Ajaero says strike was preceded by failed conversations and notices to the Governor Francis Nwifuru on the need to implement the 2024 national minimum wage since it was signed into law several months ago.

He said the Governor should have invite the labour leaders in the state for dialogue for a speedy resolution.

Comrade Ajaero urged Ebonyi state government pay the minimum wage in compliance with the Law as further directives will be given as the congress deem fit.
