TRANSFORMING AGRICULTURAL SECTOR, PIVOTAL TO ACHIEVING FOOD SECURITY -GOVERNOR YUSUF                                                                                                                      02-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                      Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has Described the Transformation of the Agricultural Sector as a lead way to Achieving Food Security in the nation.

Yusuf disclosed this during the opening ceremony of a 2-day zonal biannual review meeting on the implementation of Food Systems Transformation Pathways in Nigeria for the North West and North East zones held at Amigo Hotels,KANO.

Represented by the Chief of Staff Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized the importance of transforming the agricultural sector in Nigeria.

He noted that Kano State is a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria, with farming being the lifeblood of the state’s economy.

Governor Yusuf highlighted the challenges facing the agricultural sector, including low productivity, post-harvest losses, limited market access, and inadequate financial services.

He emphasized that the National Food System Transformation Pathways Project is critical in addressing these challenges and providing farmers with the necessary tools to thrive.

The governor commended the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and the National Convener for their leadership and vision in spearheading the initiative.

The North-West Coordinator/Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Lauratu Ado Diso, emphasized the importance of collaboration and coordination in implementing the Food System Transformation Pathways.

She noted that the North West and North East zones are vulnerable to malnutrition and hunger due to the activities of bandits, kidnappers, and insurgents.

Earlier, Head of policy and advocacy GAIN,Joy akpata said the objectives of the meeting was to create awareness among policy makers on actions to be taken to enhance food production,

The meeting aimed to provide a critical analysis of the progress made so far in implementing the Food System Transformation Pathways in the respective states and key ministries and agencies.

The meeting brought together stakeholders and partners from northwest and northeast geo-political zones to accelerate the implementation of the initiative.
