By Sadiq Aminu                                                               An early morning fire had on Tuesday destroyed at least 40 shops at the Bayan Tasha mini market in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The fire, which lasted several hours, required the intervention of the Yobe State Fire Service to prevent it from spreading to nearby residential areas.

A fire service official confirmed that the agency responded swiftly to a distress call, preventing further damage.

The fire resulted in the loss of property estimated to be worth millions of naira.

Following the incident, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni urged residents to take proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks, particularly during the harmattan season.

Expressing his condolences to the victims, Governor Buni described the incident as unfortunate, especially given the current economic challenges.

He offered comfort to the victims, citing faith, and directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the damage and the number of affected traders.

The Governor also instructed the fire service to maintain high alert during the windy season.
